Well, it is always embarrassing to write the first post back on a long-silent blog. However, its worth it.
As many of you know, my family and I have made a decision to travel to Nepal to volunteer in 2015. We have decided to do this for a few reasons. We realise we have been incredibly lucky with our life and our education, and we feel it is time to pay it back. Cris will be working as a general surgeon at a regional hospital, Luke will be working to financially support us, and the kids will be learning to live in a village.
I am excited to share our travels, joys and trials with my family and friends, as well as my long-ignored blog friends. I will be using Scalpel’s Edge to share all that we experience. There’ll be a fair bit of medical reflection, I’m guessing, but I’m sure there will be a whole lot of family and culture stories as well. I hope you can stay in touch over the year, and I’m looking to share our journey with you.
To reflect the change in our lives, I updated some of the structure of the blog. The About page has been updated as it didn’t reflect the existence of my four year old. I have also added an explanation page about what we are doing, Cuthbertson’s Volunteer in Nepal.
Finally, we are going to have a great adventure this year, but it is entirely self-funded. It costs a lot less to live in Nepal, but we still have various living, travel, medical and legal expenses. If you would like to help out, please support us with some pocket change. Details on the Support page, or jump directly to our (external) Donation page, which supports many different payment types.
Prayer and other practical support will also be helpful. By reading this blog, you will hopefully get an idea of the difficulties we are dealing with, and we are going to try to keep a specific up to date prayer list on the Support page as well.
