Scalpel's Edge

A surgeon's notes

Farewell

Farewell to our house of thirteen years and farewell to living in Melbourne (when we return we will live in another town).  I feel like I should be sad about it, but the overwhelming feeling waiting for the taxi was simply exhaustion.  Too many days of packing, and of ignoring the kids.  Too much dust and packing tape and polystyrene balls.

We are now spending a few days in Thailand and Malaysia as a mini-break before we head to Nepal.  The kids are enjoying hanging out and having no time pressure.  Luke and I are spending far too much time paying final bills and reorganising our utilities in Australia.  But we are also relaxing.

We have finished our frenzy of preparation and now we get to chill.  We know that all of our objects are inaccessible in two big shipping containers.  Even the fridge that I am pretty sure I left some dairy-based ice-cream in.  I suspect that container and all of its contents are going to smell a bit Dexter when we unpack them in 6 months time.  Talk about giving yourself excuses to discard possessions!

Edited to add this photo that Luke decided was more appropriate:
