Scalpel's Edge

A surgeon's notes

The force is strong with this job

We (in the most royal sense of the world) rock. “We” do cool things.

New kidneys for to dialysis-bound.

Pink toes instead of blue.

Internal scaffolding to aneurysms preventing rupture.

Removal of crud from the neck arteries.

The force is strong here.

However, the dark side of the force is also hovering. In this metaphor you don’t get to choose your path. You pay for the light side with the dark.

Manky feet at 3am.

100 a day smokers dying because every single blood vessel in their body is too diseased.

Stench.

People delivering their pet maggots to the emergency department in their wound.

Lady Macbeth showers at 2am.

Bad mother guilt. Terrible mother guilt. Absent mother guilt.

Still tired.

Breakfast at 6am, lunch at 4pm, dinner at 9pm.

I love my job. I still love my job. I reexamine that a lot more than I’d hoped, though. May the force be with us.
